The Key Under the Pillow
Every morning, Emma found a small brass key under her pillow.
She asked her husband, Jack, if he was putting it there.
He always laughed and said, “Of course not.”
After a week, Emma started feeling uneasy.
One night, she stayed awake and pretended to be asleep.
At 2:17 a.m., she felt the mattress move beside her.
Jack slowly got out of bed.
Emma kept her eyes closed.
She heard him walk toward the bedroom door.
Then something slipped beneath her pillow.
Jack returned to bed.
After a few minutes, Emma reached underneath.
It was another brass key.
But this time, there was a note attached.
“Don't let Jack know you've found the door.”
Emma turned toward her husband.
His eyes were already open.
He whispered,
“You weren't supposed to wake up yet.”
