The Empty Chair
Oliver noticed something strange about his wife, Sophie.
Every evening, she set three plates for dinner.
When he asked who the third plate was for, she simply smiled.
“Our guest.”
Oliver thought she was joking.
Until one night, he came home early.
Sophie was sitting at the table, talking to an empty chair.
Oliver quietly stood in the hallway and listened.
“I know you're still angry,” she whispered.
The chair suddenly moved.
Sophie looked toward it.
“Please… don't scare him.”
Oliver stepped into the room.
Sophie immediately stood up.
“What are you doing?”
She looked terrified.
Then the empty chair slowly pulled itself away from the table.
Oliver stared at it.
Sophie whispered,
“He's been sitting there since before we moved in.”
Oliver looked at the chair.
Then he heard a voice directly behind him.
“She finally told you.”
