The Couple Who Lived Next Door
Every night at exactly 3 a.m., Mark heard the couple next door arguing.
A man.
A woman.
Always the same words.
“Please don't do this.”
“I'm sorry.”
Then silence.
One morning, Mark finally complained to the landlord.
The landlord looked confused.
“There hasn't been anyone living there for six months.”
That night, Mark recorded the voices.
The next morning, he played the recording for his girlfriend, Hannah.
She went pale.
“Mark…”
“What?”
She pointed at the recording.
Between the arguing, another voice could be heard.
A man's voice.
Very quietly saying:
“They're listening again.”
Then Hannah whispered,
“That's your voice.”
