When Rebecca began sorting through old family photographs after her mother died, she noticed something strange. In every photograph taken after her parents' wedding, her father was standing beside her mother—but his face was always blurred. She thought it was a problem with the old camera until she found their wedding album. Every photograph showed the same thing: her mother smiling beside a completely different man. That evening, Rebecca asked her father about it. He stared at the photographs for several seconds before quietly saying, “Your mother doesn't remember him anymore.” Rebecca laughed nervously. “Remember who?” Her father's expression changed. “The man she married before me.” That night, Rebecca heard her parents arguing downstairs. Her mother kept repeating, “He isn't supposed to know about the photographs.” Then her father's voice answered, “Rebecca found them.” When Rebecca opened the door, the hallway was empty. The next morning, she discovered a new photograph on her bedside table. It showed her parents standing beside her as a child. But behind them stood another man, smiling directly at the camera. On the back, someone had written: “He has been in this family longer than your father.”
