My Wife Knows When I'm Going to Die
Every morning, Daniel's wife, Sophie, wrote something in a small black notebook. She never allowed him to read it. One morning, Daniel jokingly asked what she was writing. Sophie smiled and said, “Things I need to remember.” A week later, Daniel accidentally saw the notebook on the kitchen table. Each page contained a date and a sentence. March 4 — Daniel will break his finger. It happened the next day. March 12 — Daniel will almost get hit by a car. It happened exactly as written. Terrified, Daniel confronted Sophie. She finally admitted she had been having dreams about his future. Then Daniel turned to the last page. There was only one sentence: March 19 — Daniel will discover why Sophie is writing this. March 19 arrived. Daniel searched the house and found an old photograph of Sophie standing beside a grave. The name on the gravestone was his. The date of death was tomorrow. Sophie appeared behind him and whispered, “I tried changing it.” Daniel turned around. She was crying. “But every time I save you…” she said, “someone else dies instead.”
