The Husband Who Came Back Different

The Husband Who Came Back Different

When Henry's wife, Amelia, died unexpectedly, he spent months struggling to accept it. Then, exactly one year later, Amelia appeared at their front door. She looked exactly the same. Same face. Same voice. Same scar on her hand. She hugged Henry and whispered, “I'm sorry I left you.” Henry couldn't explain it, but he let her inside. For several weeks, everything seemed perfect. She remembered their private jokes, their first date, even the secret nickname only Henry knew. But one night Henry woke up and saw Amelia standing at the end of the hallway, staring at him. “What are you doing?” he asked. She smiled strangely. “Waiting for you to remember.” “Remember what?” Her smile disappeared. “That you died first.” Henry laughed nervously. “Amelia, I'm alive.” She slowly pointed toward the bedroom mirror. Henry looked. His reflection wasn't there. Behind him stood Amelia's reflection—and beside her was Henry's own corpse, lying exactly where he had been sleeping.
