The Photograph Nobody Took

A schoolteacher named Emily discovered an old photograph in her classroom cupboard.

It showed her entire class standing outside the school.

She recognised every child.

But the photograph had been taken before she was born.

There was one strange detail.

Emily herself was standing at the back.

She showed the photograph to the headmaster.

He immediately told her to destroy it.

“Why?”

He refused to answer.

That evening, Emily searched through old school records.

She found the same class.

Twenty-two had names.

The twenty-third had been completely removed.

The next morning, Emily returned to her classroom.

Another photograph was sitting on her desk.

This time, the children were older.
