The Man Living in the Ceiling
When Oliver rented his new flat, the landlord mentioned one strange rule:
“Don't worry about the noises above you.”
Oliver laughed.
“There isn't another flat above me.”
The landlord smiled awkwardly.
“I know.”
For several weeks, Oliver heard footsteps above his bedroom.
Then came scratching.
Then whispering.
One night, something dropped through the ceiling.
A photograph.
It showed Oliver sleeping.
He immediately called the landlord.
The landlord refused to come.
Instead, he whispered:
“Don't look inside the ceiling.”
Oliver opened it anyway.
There was a narrow wooden room above his flat.
A bed.
A chair.
Hundreds of photographs.
All of Oliver.
Some were dated years before he'd moved in.
