The Man Who Never Left
Every morning, Thomas saw the same man sitting on the bench opposite his house. The man wore a grey coat and never moved. Thomas eventually became curious and asked his neighbour about him. His neighbour stared at the bench. “What man?” Thomas pointed. “The one sitting there.” His neighbour's face changed. “Don't talk to him.” That night, Thomas looked outside and saw the man standing directly beneath his bedroom window. He was looking up at him. Thomas closed the curtains. The next morning, the man was gone. Relieved, Thomas went downstairs and found an envelope pushed beneath his front door. Inside was a photograph of himself sleeping in his bedroom. On the back, someone had written: “You finally noticed me.” Thomas immediately called the police. While explaining what happened, he noticed something through the window. The man was back on the bench. This time, someone was sitting beside him. It was Thomas.
