The Child Who Knew My Name

David was walking home late one evening when a little boy approached him.

“David?”

He stopped.

“How do you know my name?”

The boy pointed toward a house.

“My mum says you shouldn't go home tonight.”

David recognised the house.

It belonged to him.

He looked at the upstairs window.

His bedroom light was on.

But he'd switched every light off before leaving.

“What's your name?” David asked.

The boy smiled.

“You know me.”

“I don't.”

The boy's smile disappeared.

“You will.”

David called the police.

When they arrived, the boy was gone.

But officers found something strange inside David's house.

A child's bedroom.

David had never had children.

On the wall was a school photograph.

Every child had a name beneath them.

Except one.

The empty space had a handwritten label:

David's Son — 2038.
