The Train That Arrived 40 Years Late

 

At 11:47 PM, the abandoned Blackridge Station suddenly came alive. The station had been closed for decades when its old lights switched on and the arrival board flashed: TRAIN 702 — ARRIVING IN 2 MINUTES. The message was impossible because Train 702 had disappeared forty years earlier with 214 passengers and 11 crew members. Moments later, the missing train slowly entered the station, looking completely new. The doors opened, and the passengers stepped outside believing they had been gone for only a few hours. Their names matched the missing-person records, and none of them had aged. Investigators discovered that every passenger's watch had stopped at exactly 2:17 AM. Inside, coffee was still warm and newspapers still showed the date the train disappeared. But the final carriage was empty, even though eighteen passengers had been assigned to it. Their luggage remained behind. Hidden behind a locked door was a room not shown on any train design, containing eighteen chairs arranged in a circle. On the walls, four words were written repeatedly: THEY WILL NOT REMEMBER. One of the missing passengers was a government scientist who had officially died three years before the train vanished.
