Someone Had Been Living Inside My Apartment

 I came home from work around 10:40 p.m. and noticed my apartment door wasn't completely closed. I was certain I'd locked it that morning. I stood in the hallway for a few seconds, trying to decide whether I'd simply forgotten. Then I noticed something else—the chain was hanging loose, as if someone had opened the door from inside. I called the building manager instead of going in. While we waited, I checked my phone and saw that my bedroom motion sensor had recorded movement at 9:17 p.m. The strange part was that I hadn't installed a camera in my bedroom, only a motion sensor. The manager unlocked the door, and the apartment looked completely normal. Nothing was missing. The police searched every room and found nobody. One officer checked the bedroom and noticed that my closet door was slightly open. Inside, behind my clothes, they found an empty water bottle, a blanket, and a phone charger. Someone had apparently been staying inside my apartment while I was away. Then the officer looked at me and asked, “Do you live alone?” I said yes. He paused and showed me something on his phone. The building's hallway camera had recorded a man entering my apartment at 6:32 that morning—using a key.
