At 2:14 a.m., I received a voice message from my younger brother. He sounded frightened and whispered, “Don't come to my house.” I called him immediately, but his phone was switched off. I drove there anyway. His car was outside, his front door was unlocked, and every light inside was on. He wasn't there. I called the police, and they searched the house. Nothing looked disturbed. Then an officer found my brother's phone underneath his bed. The voice message had been sent from it only thirty minutes earlier. The officer asked when I had last spoken to my brother. I said, “Yesterday.” He looked at me and said, “Your brother has been missing for six days.”
