Daniel rented Flat 4B because it was cheap, unusually cheap for London. The landlord told him the previous tenant had simply disappeared and left everything behind. On his first night, Daniel heard footsteps above his bedroom ceiling. He complained the next morning, but the landlord looked confused. “There’s no flat above you,” he said. Daniel laughed, assuming it was a joke.
Then, at exactly 3:17 a.m., something heavy dragged across the ceiling again. The next night, he recorded it. The audio clearly captured footsteps, followed by a man's voice whispering, “Don't let him know you're awake.” Daniel called the landlord. No answer. He searched the building records and discovered something strange: Flat 4B had originally been built as a two-floor apartment, but the upper floor had supposedly been sealed decades ago after a structural accident. Daniel found the sealed entrance behind a wardrobe. When he broke through the thin plaster, he discovered a tiny apartment preserved exactly as it had been twenty-three years earlier. A bed. Plates. Clothes. And dozens of photographs of people sleeping in Flat 4B. The final photograph was dated three days earlier. It showed Daniel asleep in his bed. Standing beside him was the previous tenant.
